If you have a google+ account I can tell you how to remove the roughness.. (there's a thing on their picture editing tool that does wonders but I can't find it anywhere else!)

It should take you to a window with your picture and some tools on the left side. First click "auto-fix" (if you skip this, your picture will end up too light in the end). Then, from the four tabs at the top, choose "effects". Scroll down that menu until you find one called orton-ish. Use that and you can use the sliders to adjust it all you want, but it washes away the grainy roughness and brings out the lines a bit better.
I hope that helps! It's kind of complicated so if that didn't make sense, give me a day or two and I'll put together a tutorial for it. (I've been meaning to anyway)
