...read it, let me know what do you think. The article is on how to dupe an artist to pay less for his work. Are we serious? I'm not working as a professionist but one day I wish to do so, and this is the respect an artist deserves for all his work?
UPDATE Ehy guys, I'm not saying that the fact one tries to pay less for a job it's wrong. It's totally normal. I'm disappointed not by the fact that the author of the article is giving advices on how find artist to commission at lower price, but I'm angry for the fact, for how the article is written, that an hobbyist artist is considered just a person to exploit without any respect. Moreover I think that to commission an artist for an artwork that will be used in a project that expects a profit without explaining everything it's pretty unjust and also illegal (because of the copyright and things like that). Now, I may be dupe, but advising people to do so it's pretty bad. We are a community of artists, and I wanted to show you something that may help you, if you do commissions, to defend your interests.
and this is for answer to many of you who have commented here below.
Very straight-out tip for employers. Though very bold and clear from the hiring perspective and what some people may truly think, the "prologue" just made the article itself even more insulting at least for me.
OMG whoever wrote that "keep them in the dark", and "There’s a few reasons you want to find an artist this way. First of all, they’re cheaper. These guys aren’t used to making a lot of money for their work so they will be more appreciative of the chance even if they are being payed slightly less than what professionals are payed" makes me wanna What a slimeball!
Yes, so long as I don't seem to be going overboard. I wondered if I took the two statements at face value. The whole tone of the article though got to me. I can see where they are coming from, market-wise but the article writer made it sound like some artists (like me) are a dumb bunch with no business sense and an eagerness to enter the Art World any way we can. Forgive me if I really read it all wrong but it still irks me.
